Senior Design Manager

I am part of the Architecture & Heritage team, working on the master plan of a 5,000 home new town development in the Arab Gulf as the in-country representative and team technical lead. Responsibilities include detail design management, project coordination and client liaison, and business development.

Corstorphine + Wright, Warwick

Project Architect

I was the project architect for the Fosse Park West development, a new-build retail park comprising of high street retail and food and beverage offerings, with two anchor tenants (Next and Debenhams). Scope of work was for detail design through to tender, and planning conditions discharge, and my responsibilities included coordination with the consultant team, project administration and financial performance, team resource management and client liaison.

Benoy, London

Senior Architect

I joined Benoy on a short-term contract as a project architect with extensive technical expertise and management experience, charged with the coordination of SMEP (Structural, Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health) Engineering with the consultant team, and checking and ensuring design compliance with the Dubai Fire Life Safety Code requirements.

CallisonRTKL Ltd, London

Architect / Site Supervisor

I was engaged by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (through CallisonRTKL, the lead consultants) as the client Site Supervisor under the NEC form of contract for the construction of the British High Commission in Nigeria. This was a site-based role to ensure the quality of construction was in accordance with the contract Working Documents. I also provided Health & Safety oversight and reported on project progress against the programme.

Client Liaison / Site Supervision

One of my first engagements on becoming self-employed was to act as client representative for the House On The Rock church in Lagos during the second phase of the construction of their global headquarters, the Rock Cathedral, in Lagos. This was a site-based appointment overseeing the consultant project managers who had been appointed on a management contract, with responsibilities including project programme monitoring, procurement tracking, and onsite quality assurance.


In the interim I also developed a strategic partnership with Atelier Deux to provide lead consultancy and project management for the design stages through to tender action for the private residence of a high net worth client. This project is currently awaiting planning approval.

NBBJ Ltd, London

Architect / Project Manager

I joined NBBJ as a project architect with extensive technical expertise, site and management experience, and became a project manager in the Healthcare and Corporate Commercial sectors, responsible for projects in the Middle East and Russia, including client liaison, responsibility for project financial performance, resourcing and team composition and management, and coordination with consultants and contractors.


Within the studio I was also involved in prospect management, OJEU bid preparation and interviewing, ISO certification and auditing, and delivery management and improvement.

Watkins Gray International, London

Project Architect

I was part of the team assembled for the delivery of the Birmingham County Council BSF School Development scheme as the project architect for Wheelers Lane Campus, a site comprising a technical college, a primary school, a nursery, a sports hall, and a caretaker’s lodge. My responsibility for this site covered package design for the contractor at the front end, to site supervision through to completion and handover.

Nightingale Associates, Harwell

Project Architect

I joined Nightingale at the start of detail package design and production information on the Peninsula Medical Schools projects, and due to my previous experience with the form of contract (JCT 1999) and contract administration, I was made project architect for the Plymouth site, and saw this project through construction to completion and handover.


I was also project architect on the Nightingales side of the collaboration with make architects on the Old Road campus laboratory project for the University of Oxford, involved with the feasibility and scheme design, including laboratory design and fit-out up to Stage D and the appointment of a contractor.

Halliburton KBR, Leatherhead

Project Architect

I was a part of the architectural team responsible for the Surrey County Council education development portfolio, designing and building new schools, and refurbishing and extending existing ones.


As project architect, I was responsible for client liaison with the schools directly, design team coordination, resourcing the production of information for the contract, tender action, and site supervision through to completion.

Percy Thomas Partnership, London

Project Architect

I joined this firm (now Capita Architects) as a contract employee, and whilst there became a full-time permanent employee and completed my RIBA Part 3 exams, generating production information for building envelope packages, and producing detail drawings as well as NBS-based specifications.


I was also responsible for the preparation of a CAD tender package for the St Luke’s project, in the process creating a 3D model which was used for the steelwork package design and frame fabrication. I went on to become the site architect for this project, which was also my case study for my Part 3 exams.

Anders Elite (Agency)

Assistant Architect

I joined the recruitment agency to increase my exposure to live projects and to fast-track my learning towards the completion of my RIBA Part 3 certification.


In this period I worked on the design of an international Airport in Ghana with Tarmac Consult, participated in the fit-out of the BP Headquarters in Sunbury designed by Broadway Malyan, and prepared the external works package for a commercial development on the seafront in Weymouth.

MODE 1 Architects, London

Assistant Architect

I was the Architect’s Assistant to the partners in the firm, working on the Stonebridge Housing Action Trust scheme in North London with a portfolio of other minority practices and Shepherd Epstein Hunter.


I was also responsible for the production drawings for the domestic extensions and fit-out work that formed the bulk of the work the practice did, using my 3D modelling abilities to create walk-throughs and internal perspectives for client presentations.

Education

The Bartlett, UCL

M.Arch

I spent 10 months on an M.Arch degree in Architectural Design under the supervision of Peter Cook at The Bartlett, during which I researched and developed my theories on Meaning in Architecture, and the role and relevance of history and tradition, context and culture in architectural language and expression.


I also developed a critical appraisal of architecture and the built environment, as well as honing my interest in social responsibility, particularly regarding mass housing solutions for developing economies.

University of Lagos, Lagos

B.E.S.

B.Arch (Distinction)

On completion of the 6-year two-tier programme (the two extra years are due to political upheavals in Nigeria which disrupted the school calendars), my final year thesis project (The National Museum, Abuja) achieved a Distinction and earned a prize for the best Architecture student in the graduating class.


This thesis project, in conjunction with the degree course work, was independently assessed by the joint RIBA-ARB Board as demonstrating equivalence to the RIBA Parts 1 and 2.
